In 2012 the SRU convened a consensus conference on the topic of early first trimester sonography, focusing on establishing sonographic criteria for excluding the possibility of a viable pregnancy. The conference was moderated by SRU Fellow and Immediate Past President Peter M. Doubilet, MD, PhD. The panelists for the conference included physicians with expertise in early pregnancy from several specialty areas, including radiology, obstetrics and gynecology (including reproductive medicine) and emergency medicine. A review article was published in the October 10, 2013 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) and in the March 2014 issue of Ultrasound Quarterly, the official journal of the SRU.
Since 2001 the SRU has convened six multispecialty consensus conferences on clinical issues related to ultrasound. These conferences brought together physicians from the field of radiology as well as other specialties to discuss clinical questions and arrive at a consensus on how a particular clinical issue should be handled. Previous conferences are listed below.
